How would the regional climate changes affect the growth of trees?
Q. How would the regional climate changes affect the growth of trees? How is this important in dendroclimatology i dont get it.
Asked by Jerry - Wed Feb 10 13:58:07 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Basically, trees grow better when the climate is good for tree growth (right temperature, adequate rain fall, right amount of sunlight, etc.) Trees don't grow well when the weather conditions are poor for tree growth (drought, too hot or too cold, etc.) Dendroclimatology is the study of determining past climates from studying trees (usually tree rings.) Since trees grow more when growing conditions are good, the tree rings for that year will be bigger. Tree rings for a bad year will be thinner (less growth). Therefore, by examining tree ring sizes, and combining that information with other climate proxy records, scientists can approximate what the climate was like.

What about being a regional pilot?
Q. I saw the recent question on becoming a 747 pilot. Frankly, I don't like that sound of driving something THAT immense; it takes a lot of time to do too. Also, the hassle associated with entering another country and their regulations and the long flight time. Now what I am asking is this: What are the requirements of being a regional pilot flying 737ish aircraft in regional airlines like Southwest etc? I am really considering a job in travel and a pilot sounds good. Hows the training? How long? Is it worth it? What about your family life? I would appreciate answers from regional pilots or international alike, although anyone's helpful input would also help.

A. 1) What are the requirements of being a regional pilot flying 737ish aircraft in regional airlines like Southwest etc? First off, SWA is NOT a regional. Make no mistake, they are a MAJOR U.S. carrier and one of the top paying airlines at that. Any airline that flies 737s can't really be considered a "regional". In all actuality many airlines that are called such are actually majors as they have over a billion in revenue annually (the mark of a major by the D.O.T.). The "regional" airlines like the Express & Connection carriers that feed the majors (even if they are now "majors" in their own right) generally all require: 1. A Commercial pilot certificate with instrument & multi-engine ratings 2. 1,000 hours of flight experience, 100 of… [cont.]

A. There are many ways. You can be a CFI and instruct people. There are some small cargo firms that fly Cessna 206's and similar aircraft. And you must have at least 250 hours for a Commercial certificate.

What is the difference between regional and direct trenitalia trains?
Q. I'm going to be taking a train from Bergamo to Milan and back at the end of the month. The fastest option shows up with a D symbol on trenitalia's website and goes into Milano Centrale. The others go into Lambrate and Porta Garibaldi. These have an R symbol. I think I've worked out that D train is direct and the R trains are regional from their website. Are there any surcharges or do you have to reserve a seat on the direct trains into Milano Centrale? The trains are all short-distance within Lombardy.
Asked by me9189 - Wed Oct 11 12:08:15 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There are actually 4 classes of train - Regionale - slowest, least comfortable. Best to use if you are going to small village stations. They are the cheapest and get there in the end! Diretto - cuts out some of the smaller stations but not the fastest trains in the world. UK commuter standard (and every bit as reliable). Express - City-to-city and until recently the top service. More expensive than the two above but trust us, its worth it! Eurostar - luxury and very fast trains. More expensive again but worth it for longer journeys. You pay for the distance, so its not cheaper to get a return than two singles, and you don't have to get the same class of train in each direction. It is a good idea to book Eurostar or Express seats… [cont.]

Your group of associates can work on these problems and try to create public awareness if required. Once people see you are doing some good, positive work and giving good results soon more people will join and you will have a good organisation soon. How does one become a district or regional manager for Taco Bell?
Q. I have been working at a Taco Bell/KFC now for about three months and I am currently attending college for business management. I like my job there and enjoy the environment. I was wondering what one has to do in order to become a district manager or even a regional manager. Also how long it would take to get that high in the company. How old would I have to be to work at a small regional airport?
Q. I have always enjoyed watching airplanes. How old would I have to be to work at my small regional airport? My airport is East Texas Regional Airport.
Asked by Andy - Mon Nov 10 18:34:30 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It kind of depends. Some small FBOs really don't have a minimum age, and I've had 15 year old kids fuel my aircraft (who probably had more hours than me!). Larger airports like GGG probably have municipality oversight. There are lots of places to work there, but I would ask the airport at their site: See what they say. Don't underestimate the folks in aviation. They are usually willing to help a young person who is interested in flying, if they can. Good luck.

For those parts in which people just speak Farsi but with different accents, it's not very difficult to understand. A. If you want to compete in those big competitions, you have to first qualify to go to regionals at a qualifying event. Then if you are in the top 4 or something, you go to sectionals, and top 2 goes to nationals. From nationals, I think top 4 can go compete at Worlds.

How to play a DVD with a different regional code?
Q. I was given a DVD as a gift from a friend in Italy. However the encoding doesn't allow it to play on my DVD player. Any suggestions? Is it possible to play it on the computer? I haven't had much success with that yet either, but then, I usually don't watch things on the computer, so that could just be me. What should I do? The film is not available in US format yet, so I can't just buy a copy with the right regional code.

A. I have a friend in Sweden aswell who sent me a DVD, And I know Cyberlink PowerDVD playes PAL disks (that would be the encoding they use over there, We use NTSC). As for DVD players that play PAL DVD's I dont know much about, but I know she could play NTSC discs in hers, so there has to be dual capable ones. Oh and although this would sort of difficult but you could try hooking you PC up to your TV if its the screen size that bothers you. Just something to look into... cheers
