What charities benefit members of the canadian armed forces?
Q. I am trying to set up an online poker tournament where a protion of the prize pool will go to benefit a charity dedicated to the canadian armed forces. I need a good charity before i get started.

A. A charity that comes to mind is the Military Families Fund. This charity was founded by former Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Rick Hillier. It is meant to supplement other programs. Its mission is to help military families in their time of need. Perhaps most importantly, it provides support for soldiers returning from duty who are suffering from physical and psychological effects from their mission. I've also linked a recent Fifth Estate documentary that looks at PTSD within the military.

Can you join the armed forces with a physical problem?
Q. I have a back problem and I want to know if it will prevent me from joining a branch (any branch) of the armed forces. I am mostly functional but I've had several major spinal surgeries and I have some physical limitations. Thanks!

A. Go talk to the recruiter. People have gotten in with waivers for crazy things. More than likely the physical will deem you as physically unqualified, but my best advice is to talk to the recruiter and go through the physical and everything. The worst they can do is say no you can't join...and then you're no worse off than you are now! therefore talking to them can really only benefit you.

I want to work for the armed forces, but not in the combat positions. How do i get those jobs?
Q. im talking about administrative sfaff that help out the JAGS or military tribunals, etc. How do I get to work in administration in the armed forces? Most of the recruitment seems to be aimed at combat positions, which I dont think would be a good fit for me. I like the armed forces discipline and traditions, but i feel i can contribute in a different way other than being a combat personnell.

A. Just go to the recruiter and ask what they have available. In the Army there are different branches that have different types of jobs. Combat Arms is a branch but you would not be interested in but maybe... Administrative Support Branch with jobs like chaplians assistant, unit supply specialist, paralegal specialist, financial management tech, or human resource specialist. Arts and Media branch with jobs like public affair specialist, or broadcastor. Computer Technology branch which offer the best jobs. Though that opinion might be biased considering I have a job under this catagory. You can work as a signal system support specialist, radio operator, imagery analyst, satalite communications system operator or Network technition. All… [cont.]
