A. Ethanol in alcoholic beverages has been consumed by humans since prehistoric times for a variety of hygienic, dietary, medicinal, religious, and recreational reasons. The consumption of large doses of ethanol causes drunkenness (intoxication), which may lead to a hangover as its effects wear off. Depending upon the dose and the regularity of its consumption, ethanol can cause acute respiratory failure or death. Because ethanol impairs judgment in humans, it can be a catalyst for reckless or irresponsible behavior. The LD50 of ethanol in rats is 10,300 mg/kg.[5] Other alcohols are substantially more poisonous than ethanol, partly because they take much longer to be metabolized and partly because their metabolzation produces substances that… [cont.]

What are your thoughts about animal abuse?
Q. I was just wondering what some of your thoughts on animal abuse are? I personally can't believe people can do that to a living breathing animal. I don't understand it. I want to work as an animal abuse control officer and someday open my own adoption facility for abused animals, of any kind. I especially hate those korean dog meat farms, I can't even bare to see nor watch videos about it.

What are some of the reasons why domestic abuse victim might not report it to the authorities?
Q. Writing an essay on domestic abuse (focusing mainly on domestic violence) I understand that a victim may fear that the abuse will become worse if the abuser finds out it's been reported, and that victims of any abuse are made to feel guilty and as though it's somehow their fault. However, are there any other reasons? I'm trying to be as detailed as possible.

A. I am going to state the reasons that will not have a victim report abuse and since commonly the abuser is male and victim female I will refer to them as that but baring in mind that abusers are also females and abuse is common in homosexual relationships. Also fear is one of the main elements but I will try to provide a variety of other reasons. Studies have shown that it is harder to convince judges and juries to convict in abuse cases, because of prejudices against complainants as well as misconceptions about what "type" of man would commit such a crime. Courts can reserve a certain scepticism and disparaging biases against females are still the rule of the day in courts even amongst female employees. The police and courts may have… [cont.]

What does abuse look like when it's done by the wife or gf?
Q. I often see claims from people saying that the majority of abusers are men. A. Try to think of a really cute animal, or one that looks really sad. I think the younger, the more attention they will attract. Try a puppy, a kitten, or something like that. Good luck! =)

Q. I have worked in customer services for about 10 years. Every company is different with how much abuse you are expected to take. A. Do your best for as long as you can. There comes a time when enough is enough. When you know there is nothing more you can do to make the customer happy just smile and tell them you understand but you've done all you can. Hang up or walk away. No customer has the right to verbally abuse you.

How do you explain to teenagers about drug abuse?
Q. I am working on a youth programme about drug abuse. There are so many awareness programmes out there and ads that explains about drug abuse. And yet, these messages did not compute in most of these young minds. Were the ads not effective? Are we saying the wrong thing?
Asked by kristalchampagne - Thu Jun 21 14:06:15 2007 - - 15 Answers - 1 Comments
A. The best thing to do is actually show kids how drugs will effect them. Like get a volunteer, tell the students that this is what will happen when you do crack or weed etc. Use make-up, breath enhancers, and other things to make the person look like the result of doing drugs. Or get someone who has done drugs, and has effected their lives severely and have them speak to the class about their experience.

Q. I want to find a way to report animal abuse that I witnessed in a local animal shelter and I would like it to be brought to the publics attention but our local newspaper will not help and please do not tell me to report it to the aspca or peta because I know aboout them but that will not help. A. firstly document the facts now so you dont forget later... if their is a manager of the shelter you should report it to them...the local newspaper is generaly the best way of bringing things to the publics attention HOWEVER they risk being sued if the information is incorrect plus will get blasted by alot of shelter supporters for running the story... PLUS they are worried about undoing any good things that the shelter does do... ok.. so if this shelter is not an SPCA the SPCA itself will know who investigates complaints in that area.. they may not help but can tell you who will a vet might know who you contact or the city itself usually investigates complaints of abuse...so call them too... good luck - make sure what you saw was infact… [cont.]

Doing something for the victims in the shelters is easy, but they're already saved. I want to help the other children who really need it. I know it's a lot to ask and there's no real way to stop it. I took an excellent class last semester on Child Abuse - so my first word of advice would be to contact local universities to see if any are teaching classes on the topic (usually in the sociology or social work departments), and see if you could make contact with their professors. I'm sure anyone who cares enough about this topic to teach a whole class on the subject would be to sit down and talk to you more about the topic. Here's a few ideas you might want to consider: - Do a Google search for "Child Advocacy Center" and see if you can find one in your area. These centers are places where children come when abuse is suspected in the home, and they work with a team of advocates from different fields (police, attorneys, dr.s, social… [cont.]

How is verbal abuse defined from a legal standpoint?
Q. Almost everyone fights and says things that they don't mean at times, but I don't really think of that as being verbal abuse. What is the definition of verbal abuse? Thank you!
Asked by Matthew - Sun Sep 7 16:09:51 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. This is how it's defined in U.S law, not sure whether it'd be different in European states or anything. "Verbal abuse is the use of words to cause harm to the person being spoken to. It is difficult to define and may take many forms. Similarly, the harm caused is often difficult to measure. The most commonly understood form is name-calling. Verbal abuse may consist of shouting, insulting, intimidating, threatening, shaming, demeaning, or derogatory language, among other forms of communication."

Enabling substance abuse addiction can be manifested in a variety of ways, some of which are as follows: * making excuses for the person's behavior * doing something for the person instead of letting him do it himself * not recognizing the problem or denying its existence, therefore allowing the behavior to go on. * helping the individual fuel his substance abuse addiction by giving him money, finishing his work for him, or just plain ignoring his behavior and shortcomings. Q. What are signs from your drinking pattern/lifestyle that can distinguish between alcohohlism and alcohol abuse? I know that many of the signs must be the same but maybe there are particular cues. I'd prefer not the typical "drinking lecture," but rather information regarding this topic as I want to be safe and watch myself as I've noticed some bad patterns. Thanks.

Cannot control how much they drink, even though they recognize that they drink too much. 3. Spend much of their time getting and drinking alcohol and recovering from its effects. 4. The alcohol's effects, including intoxication and withdrawal, interfere with their ability to work, study, and meet family obligations. 5. Continue to drink despite experiencing significant alcohol-related problems. 6. Have developed a tolerance for alcohol and have to drink more to get the same effects that they used to get. 7. How do I find a therapist that specializes in sexual abuse survivors?
Q. I am an adult dealing with the effects of childhood sexual abuse. How do I find a therapist that specializes in this area? I live in Delaware, and have easy access to South Jersey if there aren't any here.

A. Beth the best way to find a specialist is to call the Administrator of Mental Health in your area (in the Blue Pages) and explain they issue you are wanting to address in therapy. Also if you have a United Way in your area they are very effective at finding specialists. God Bless Reggie p.s. also you can go on site at NAMI.org and look someone up that way. National Association Mental Health orginatization- top contributor with issues.

How can I help in the efforts to stop animal abuse?
Q. Animal abuse is always something I have felt VERY strongly against, and I'd really like to join the efforts to put an end to it. What can I do?

A. Help with organizations like www.bestfriends.org, the largest no-kill animal shelter in the country. And help at the shelter in your own town. Lobby to make it no-kill. Encourage spay/neuter clinics. Do what you believe in, but make sure it helps and is a positive influence, not a negative one. PETA (and the more radical organizations it supports) usually ends up hurting the cause, and has been responsible for actually putting pets to death after supposedly "saving" them. Make sure you understand what an organization really stands for (PETA, for example, wants to destroy all "artificial" breeds, which would include most of the cattle, and all the pets in the world).
