I want to know exactly what verbal abuse is. It's to a point were we can't even be in a room in peace due to the constant insults we keep hearing some of the worst things someone could say to a person and i want to know how bad that could be and if there could be criminal charges. A. Hi there- I don't know exactly what your situation is, but it sounds like things are pretty rough with your family. I would suggest reading a book called A Verbally Abusive Relationship by Patricia Evans. Also, if it feels like verbal abuse, it probably is. Emotional abuse can be just as bad and even worse than physical abuse. Have you sought counseling? Hang in there and good luck!

What drives someone to abuse or kill an animal for fun?
Q. I've never gotten why so many people like hurting or killing animals just for laughs. I get hunting and understand population control but to kill just get your rocks off is just something that I can't understand. So I'm curious what drives someone to abuse or kill an animal for fun?

A. I used to work at Corrections (headquarters) and did a lot of research on various topics. My opinion, is that some people like the control - over life or death - that they have by killing animals. And if it is a sadistic / torture killing - they may grow bored with it - and move onto doing the same thing to humans. Some people have a hatred of others - so bad that they enjoy tormenting other people. It may be at several different levels. I worked for the state at one agency and we had 3 levels of management that really enjoyed tormenting the employees. I was a supervisor and would be called in and given orders to cause the employees to have problems on the job. I would refuse. It was so bad that one employee came in and jumped… [cont.]

How can I report animal abuse in a local shelter?
Q. I want to find a way to report animal abuse that I witnessed in a local animal shelter and I would like it to be brought to the publics attention but our local newspaper will not help and please do not tell me to report it to the aspca or peta because I know aboout them but that will not help. So if anyone knows anyway to help with this please let me know.

A. firstly document the facts now so you dont forget later... if their is a manager of the shelter you should report it to them...the local newspaper is generaly the best way of bringing things to the publics attention HOWEVER they risk being sued if the information is incorrect plus will get blasted by alot of shelter supporters for running the story... PLUS they are worried about undoing any good things that the shelter does do... ok.. so if this shelter is not an SPCA the SPCA itself will know who investigates complaints in that area.. they may not help but can tell you who will a vet might know who you contact or the city itself usually investigates complaints of abuse...so call them too... good luck - make sure what you saw was infact… [cont.]

What do you think causes people abuse animals?
Q. My 4 year old cat was abused and the experience has never really left her. Even though she was less than 6 weeks old when it happened. We've had her since she was 9 weeks old she still sometimes freaks out when she hears men's voices and still won't fully accept my dad. Do you think people who abuse animals are inately evil? Do you think it could be because of something they've experienced? Have you got any experience of owning an animal that was abused? Thanks for your answers.
Asked by E.L - Sat Jul 5 12:17:54 2008 - - 15 Answers - 1 Comments

A. People use their power and strength over animals to abuse them. Also animals can't speak and so the abuser gets off scot free. I think these people ARE evil, and anyone found guilty of abuse should be subjected to the same level themselves. I haven't had an abused animal, but I have rescued a few dogs from the cat & dog home. I would rather go there for a pet, then a breeder.

A. You would need to get your BSN in nursing which would take four years and then perhaps some extra certification after that. usually an employer will specify what else is needed.

What is the difference between child abuse and child neglect?
Q. Would ignoring a child as they grow up and giving them no rules, love, or nurturing be considered neglect? Is not giving them food or clothes neglect or abuse? Where is the line drawn?
Asked by Meredith - Tue Mar 23 21:28:39 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You need to specify the context of your question. If you are referring to abuse or neglect definitions as they relate to various Child Protection Acts adopted by various jurisdictions, the differences, if any, will be spelled out in the statutory provisions. In those circumstances, "neglect" could mean not feeding your child where a doctor or pediatrician would say there is a "failure to thrive" issue; it could mean you left your child strapped in a car seat in a locked vehicle with the windows rolled up in 101 degrees Fahrenheit while you knocked back a few beers at the tavern watching the Lakers. Abuse is more like giving the child a subdural hematoma or hemorrhaging retinas after shaking the baby for 10 or 15 minutes or breaking the… [cont.]

What degree should I get to become a substance abuse counselor?
Q. Should I get a masters degree in psychology and specialize in substance abuse counseling? Should I get a masters in counseling and specialize in substance abuse counseling? Or should should I get a masters in social work?
Asked by MEME - Wed Feb 24 13:13:41 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A Masters in Social Work is the best practical degree for direct work in the field. BUT, treating people who have abused drugs(alcohol) really need a recovering addict who has been trained in treatment, as they are MASTERS in rationalization, manipulation, defense mechanisms, and it "takes one to know one!" My advice is to get into regular counseling of all problems and get a lot of experience under your belt before you try your hand with addictions! I don't mean to diminish Psychology and Counseling, as I got my MA in Guidance and Counseling and was a therapist for very troubled adolescents for 20 yrs, and loved it. But addictions are MUCH more ingrained--you're working against both psychological AND physiological forces. Good Luck!

What can Percocet abuse do to your baby during pregnancy?
Q. A girl I know is due in August and has been abusing the pills before she found out and ever since she found out. She has been taking 5-8 a day. The doctor supposedly tells her everything looks/sounds good but I'm doubtful. Could something be wrong with her baby when it's born? Thanks for any answers. She also has not told her doctor about her substance abuse. Could the doctor be able to tell anything is wrong through listening to the heart beat? Or any ultrasounds? It's not fair to make your baby suffer while you get high.
Asked by Audrey born 2/15 - Thu Jul 1 11:31:19 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Pain killers dont pose much risk of birth defects, BUT the biggest risk they pose is the baby being born addicted. If she tells her dotor, he will likely keep her on them, or switch her to Methadone or Subutex which are narcotics used to treat addiction. The reason the dotor wont want her to stop is she will have really bad withdrawals which can harm the baby worse than the drug. However the baby will be born addicted and will have to then be weaned in the hospital for a week or so. The other big risk is respiratory difficulties. Then of course the third issue is she will likely have to deal with Child Protective Services (or whatever the agency is called where she lives), who may or may not step in and take the baby. She should… [cont.]

A. I think you should go to substance abuse treatment centers. They'll surely be able to provide you with more information regarding treatment methods, as well as the kinds of therapies that they offer to the patients. To find the treatment centers, you can use the links below. You can also go to the local hospital and ask one of the hospital staff to give you a list of the treatment centers in your area. Good luck! I do hope that you get the information you need.

A. The best thing to do is actually show kids how drugs will effect them. Like get a volunteer, tell the students that this is what will happen when you do crack or weed etc. Use make-up, breath enhancers, and other things to make the person look like the result of doing drugs. Or get someone who has done drugs, and has effected their lives severely and have them speak to the class about their experience.

Is it abuse to keep a dog in a small room for long and short periods of time?
Q. Is it abuse to keep a dog in a small room for long and short periods of time? My husband and I have to go to work for 6 hours, and we have a dog. We keep him in a small room, the size of maybe a walk in closet? He can walk and run around, so it is roomy for him. We put a green blanket and all his toys with him. Plus, we boarded the windows and anything hurtful with wood. I was wondering if this is dog abuse or not. Please help?
Asked by Mike - Sun Feb 25 17:40:09 2007 - - 19 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No this isn't abuse. In fact it's one of the best things you can do. A small room or a kennel. Eventually through your training and discipline the dog will be able to roam the house w/o causing destruction or going potty in the house. Rotate the toys so they seem interesting to the puppy and he'll playing w/ them. I hope w/ you boarding everything up etc there is a bit of light coming in. Turn a radio on while your gone too, it'll make the dog a bit more comfortable. You'll be okay. I had to leave my girls for about that amount of time when I first got them. As long as the puppy gets all the walks and exercise he needs he should be okay. Good Luck

A. I took an excellent class last semester on Child Abuse - so my first word of advice would be to contact local universities to see if any are teaching classes on the topic (usually in the sociology or social work departments), and see if you could make contact with their professors. I'm sure anyone who cares enough about this topic to teach a whole class on the subject would be to sit down and talk to you more about the topic. Here's a few ideas you might want to consider: - Do a Google search for "Child Advocacy Center" and see if you can find one in your area. These centers are places where children come when abuse is suspected in the home, and they work with a team of advocates from different fields (police, attorneys, dr.s, social… [cont.]
